Accommodations
Over the years, many women have come to think of Our Lady of Calvary as their "home away from home." Because the
core of our house was once a private home, the feel is one of intimacy and familiarity…like visiting the home of a
friend.
From the moment you pass through our front door, you'll feel comfortable and relaxed. As you make your way to
your room, you'll notice that carpeting underfoot helps promote an atmosphere of quiet. Whether you've chosen a
private or shared room, you'll feel right at home.
Each of our rooms has been lovingly decorated by a retreatant or group, making every one a unique environment.
Perhaps you'll find a handmade quilt on the bed, or a hand-crocheted shawl draped over a chair. There may be a
rosary on your desk, a flower garland over your mirror or a prayer card tucked under your pillow. From one
weekend to the next, our retreatants frequently leave mementos for each other…a bible verse, a greeting card,
a photograph. You may find a journal, filled with the thoughts and observations of those who've occupied the
room before you, its blank pages beckoning you to add your own insights.
Each of our rooms has its own sink and mirror, relieving you of the need to use the shared bathroom for your
personal hygiene (teeth brushing, hand washing, hair drying, etc). Most have a desk lamp and reading lamp in
addition to the overhead light, and many also have a window seat. A small closet is available to hang your
clothes, and extra blankets and pillows are readily available. While we ask that you bring your own toiletries,
bed linens and towels are provided.
We try to make our house comfortable with many cozy "nooks" for reading, meditation or conversation. Our coffee
room just off the conference space is a popular gathering spot at all hours; many retreatants bring their favorite
goodies to share. Our library offers many inspirational and religious texts and we also make available a range of
audio tapes-both spoken and musical-for your listening pleasure. Throughout the weekend you will have plenty of
time to rest, relax, read, meditate, pray and socialize. We hope that you, too, will come away feeling that Our
Lady of Calvary is your "home away from home."
