Inspired Ideas For Promoters

•Submit a story or testimonial describing your retreat experience to your parish newsletter or bulletin. Send it to us, too, and we’ll post it on the OLC blog!

•Host an evening of dessert (and even entertainment) for the women of your parish. Use this opportunity to generate excitement among the “regulars” and provide information about OLC to those who have never attended a retreat.

•Sponsor a booth at your parish festival and provide flyers, registration forms, posters, and other OLC information. Make sure the booth is staffed by retreatants who can offer personal stories about their experiences.

•Extend a personal invitation to the women in your parish that are going through RCIA.

•Make a special appeal to the men of your parish to encourage their wives, moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and other family members to attend retreat.

•If your retreat weekend is near a holiday (Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day), take advantage of the timing when writing bulletin announcements or talking at Mass. Suggest a retreat weekend as “the perfect gift for a special woman in your life.” Suggest the use of OLC mugs as alternative “stockings” to hold gift certificates. Or encourage women to “refuel before the busy holiday season with a quiet weekend retreat.”

•Foster a continued connection with your parish retreatants by meeting regularly for reflection or socializing.

•Invite a married couple to speak at Mass or during a parish gathering. Encourage the husband to share the positive impact on his family by having his wife attend a retreat.

•Write a short personal note to each retreatant from your parish and leave it on their pillow the first or second day of retreat. Consider creating a “Gratitude Certificate” for coming on retreat on your computer – to be redeemed at the OLC Gift Shop ... this small token (perhaps $5.00) would encourage the purchase of items that would keep the retreat spirit alive when the retreatant returns home.

•Encourage seasoned retreatants to become “unofficial” promoters. Ask them to pray for guidance in extending personal invitations to friends, family members, co-workers, etc. Make a point to thank and acknowledge anyone from your parish who brings someone new. Perhaps “reward” them with a gift certificate to the OLC Gift Shop. If each retreatant from your parish encouraged one woman to join her, your parish would double its attendance!
