Sample Retreat Invitation

This is a sample invitation to be mailed or e-mailed to the women of your parish.  Please feel free to adapt to your style and audience, as you weave in your own personal touches to the invitation.

It is my privilege to write to you about a wonderful retreat opportunity at Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center, located in Farmington, Connecticut.  I invite you to join me – and other women from our parish – on this very special experience.  Most of us, myself included, never would have gone on retreat without being asked.  That’s why I’m extending this personal invitation.

Why go on a retreat? For most of us, the pace of daily life is pretty hectic. Because we’re always on the go, there isn’t much time to think about the things that are truly important in life.  At Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center, the peace and solitude provide a chance for you to get away – to take time to reflect, refresh, and renew. During this time apart, you may even discover the inner strength to help with issues or challenges you are facing. And if you need it, there is always the availability of spiritual counseling or just the sympathetic ear of someone else who has been where you are now.

If you’re thinking, “a retreat is not for me,” think again! Retreat is for every woman – moms on the go, career women, empty-nesters, women who are single, divorced or widowed.  OLC provides a place of refuge and spiritual renewal where ALL are welcome. Perhaps you think you don’t need a retreat; there are no extraordinary problems or challenges in your life just now. But retreat is not only for the difficult times in your life – it’s also for those times when you are feeling happy, fulfilled, and thankful for all your many blessings. What better way to deepen your spiritual connection with the God to whom you are so grateful?

Maybe you’re saying, “I can’t afford to give up an entire weekend!” But you need to trust that when you step away from your family, they really can and will manage without you. From Friday at 7 p.m. to Sunday at 12:30 p.m. is only about 40 hours… long enough for them to miss you and perhaps deepen their appreciation of all you do.  It’s also plenty of time for you to re-focus your energy, and come back to them refreshed.  Besides, you may find that they experience blessings of their own during your time away.  Or you may want to consider our “Commuter Saturday program” – from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. – one full day of a retreat that will fill your heart.

Finally, I want you to know that cost should never be a reason for not making a retreat. Many pastors offer scholarships to women to go on retreat – especially those who serve on a parish committee or help in a stewardship program.  And at Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center, there is a scholarship fund to help those who find themselves in need.  Nearly all of us—at one time or another—have experienced financial challenges.  No matter the reason, OLC will find a way to make your retreat possible—you only have to ask.  Please write a short note addressed to our Administrator, Sr. Joanne Fahey, with your request. You’ll be glad you did.

If you've considered a retreat in the past, don’t miss this opportunity for an uplifting and fulfilling experience!  I promise you this could be the greatest gift you give yourself!  I’ve enclosed a registration form: if you have any questions at all, please give me a call.  I look forward to seeing you on retreat!
